The IndiSMS suite of applications enables SMS and GPRS-based communication in multiple Indian languages. Mobile users can send and receive short messages, news, jokes, chat and a host of other services in the language of their choice. IndiSMS is available as a Java (MIDP 1.0 and MIDP 2.0) and Symbian Series-60 application, and hence supports a wide range of phones. The messages are sent in International standard "Unicode" text format and are compatible with most of the handsets sold in India. Click here for Details on compatible handsets. IndiSMS is an easy-to-download mobile application. It allows the user to type the message in a Phonetic manner using the English alphabet, while the Indian language equivalent appears above as the user types. Text typed as 'namaskaar' appears as or as per the selected language. For creating a message, IndiSMS uses transliteration or what is also called as 'Phonetic Entry'. IndiSMS works even on mobile handsets that do not otherwise support Indian language display.
